BLIND LOYALTY AND EAGLE EYES

The eyes of Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has emphatically stated that 14-year head coach Andy Reid is under the gun, on the hit seat, the eyes of Philadelphia are on him! After two straight 8-8 seasons, another 8-8 season is unacceptable.

Last year the Eagles went for broke, creating the ‘dream team’ as it was called, and had all the media ceding the season to the Eagles. Injuries were not figured into the equation and so if it weren’t for a 4-0 finish at the end of the 2011 season they would have been a losing team with a huge payroll.

The 54-year-old's Eagles coach’s career began on the wrong foot finishing with a 5-11 season, and also had a 6-10 season along with the two 8-8 seasons, but  the team has won at least nine games and made the playoffs in each of Reid's other nine campaigns.

Making it to the NFC Championship five times and to the Super Bowl once, Reid was named the Sporting News Coach of the Year in 2000 and the AP Coach of the Year in 2002.

Reid has been a pretty successful coach with a 136-90-1 record (.609 winning percentage) in Philadelphia otherwise.

It would seem to me that the guy to go should be Lurie, not Reid. He has destroyed any currency he had with Reid, and if I were Reid, I’d be looking to leave asap. Here is a coach that most teams hate to face, usually a team that is coached well and finds ways to beat you.

Maybe Lurie should realize what talent he brought into the organization, and the Eagles brought in a ridiculous amount of supposedly top talent last off-season, coupled with the fact that Michael Vick can’t stay healthy was the problem.

Coaching an NFL team must be very difficult and complex, running those many people, have a large coaching staff, creating an offensive and defensive philosophy for the team is no easy thing. Each week is a study of the opponent and a game plan for 16 separate games, an enormous undertaking. Get real Lurie, Reid is a powerful resource, and inspiring leader and well respected by his team.

That’s all I wrote, folks!
