AS I SAID
On Sunday, August 12th of this year, I wrote a
blog: I MAY BE WRONG BUT…in which I stated my case that maybe the Yankees
better start looking over their shoulder. Now they have to look next to
themselves, because the Orioles are there!
To make it worst, the Tampa Bay Rays are on their heels, and
I want to tell you I told you so. How many people saw that?
I ended that blog with: “If
the Yankees fall from first and miss the playoffs, this will not be the
collapse of any magnitude other than the injuries on the Yankees and talents of
other teams catching up with the Yankees. Keep your eyes opened for the fall,
it could happen.”
But it is
interesting if you compare what happened to the Red Sox last year. Come
September they fell apart and never got re-started, and it has held over to
this season as well.
Is there a shelf
life on talent, and can it shut down so immediately? What happens to a team,
especially one so talented as the Yankees are supposed to be? It is a long
season, and you could blame the pitching, especially the relief side of things,
but the hitting hasn’t been there at times, and the fielding or base running is
not up to snuff either. Is achieving excellence that exhausting that the team
can collapse from it?
If you assess the Tampa
Bay Rays, the team averages are not all that imposing, they don’t necessarily
scare you, and I think the Yankees will hit a winning streak that will save
this season. Why, because they are the Yankees.
That’s all I wrote,
folks!
