A-ROD LIGHTNING POLE
Some guys all you do is: mention their names and you get
immediate reactions to it.
I know I have my feelings about the guy too. Once you are
tainted by drug suspicions or monkey juice, I immediately have my doubts about
you too.
Back on December 30, of 2011. I wrote a blog about A-rod and
just what he meant to the Yankees and baseball. As we look at the closing of
the 2012 campaign, I see I am right about him, things have not changed and all
that money stays locked into a player who’s dedication is minimal, his salary
maximum, and likeability way off the charts!
“Rodriguez is considered one of the best all-around baseball
players of all time. He is the youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs, and the
youngest to hit 600,
besting Babe Ruth's
record by over a year. Rodriguez has fourteen 100-RBI seasons in his career,
a record. A-Rod is the all-time leader in home runs by a player of Hispanic descent.” Is what
on wrote on December 30. 2011, and it still holds true, however the production
is quickly ending, and I don’t see him getting any better, or improving very much
on his numbers.
A-Rod has a reputation as a choker in the October (Now
quickly becoming the November) classic. The Yankees at least guarantee you a
post season, but can’t guarantee a visit to the World Series, especially with
the high, over priced third baseman hunched over at his position, or when he is
in the batter’s box.
So Brian Cashman has a dilemma, what do you do with all that
money piled on third base that doesn’t seem productive anymore. It could go
into a relief core of pitchers
that will hold a lead,
Time for the Yankees to find a way to buy out A-Rod’s
contract, and stem some of the losses they will incur. He will be 42 when his
contract expires in 2017. I keep wondering how many of those remaining five
years will be productive? And maybe they better pay him off, and stay away from
those bidding wars for some of these free agents once again. They just may find
another A-Rod!
