WHEW!

BARON DAVIS
That was close, the Knicks could have been the laughing stock of the NBA had they been swept once again! The Heat applied the heat but the Knicks managed to win this one, which surprised me. Maybe there is some life in the team yet. After 11 years, they bring a victory to the Garden no less 89-87 and can maybe build on what they did. Stoudemire, bandaged hand and all looked like a rallying point for the team. Maybe it demonstrated how much he wants to win, and lead the team to the victory.

With all the knocks on the Knicks, maybe something got through. I really don’t expect them to win any more games, but at least they fired a shot. I still think they CAN win the series, but it will take a Herculean effort to do so. With Baron Davis now out, can the Knicks bring back the ‘Linsanity’?

But what made the difference? The fact that the two leaders, Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire combined for 61 points! If Jeremy Lin can come back and shake off the rust, the Heat could be in for a longer series.

JETER

Pushing his average to near .400, looks like Derrick Jeter is having a great season so far. Once again it is early, and things aren’t really sorted out yet for the team as a whole, but with the Yankees, you do know they will be in the thick of it.

Meanwhile Andy Petite thinks he is ready to join the big club, in spite of being knocked around buy the Triple A opponent.

Not having pitched since 2010, sitting out last season in ‘retirement’, he gave up three earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings. Whether the Yankees call him back or ask him to start one more time is the question now, and they should evaluate that soon enough. Will he be ready to start in the majors?

SAME OLD METS

Injuries once again playing a part in the season, this time Ruben Tajeda is down after injuring his quadriceps. There is not much depth on the bench to come in and fill in for injuries, and with Jason Bay down, Turner can only play one position at a time.

The remarkable story so far has been the pitching, even though Pelfrey is down for the season, they continue to defy the odds and are in contention. After being swept by the lowly Astros, it looked like last year all over again, but they did bounce back and beat a better team in the Diamondbacks!

That’s all I wrote, folks
