MARIANO RIVERA

OK, sometimes I can be redundant and repeat myself in another way, shape or form, but here goes again: What the hell was the best relief pitcher in baseball, sure Hall of Famer, doing in the outfield taking that kind of risk?

If he was playing a game of pick-up on a basketball court, and had that injury, a torn ligament or ACL, the Yankees would be in their right to not pay him for breaking his contract. Hello, he shouldn’t be shagging flies when he has such a huge job.

This injury may end his career, and at 42 years of age it probably has. Mariano was a great pitcher no matter if you root for the Yankees or Red Sox, and his getting hurt like that robs the baseball fan of some truly great baseball.

Now what will the Yankees do? David Robertson awaits in the wings. Like all Yankee teams, there is always a more than suitable replacement, that is why fans hate the Yankees, but why the Yankees win. Last season he was a great setup man for Mariano. In 63 of 70 appearances, the opposition never scored, so he is primed.

WR Plaxico Burress

There are still some quality free agents out there in the NFL free agent marketplace. One of them is Plaxico Burress (rhymes with duress) and why the Jets let him get away is beyond me!  Here is a mismatch in the end zone with Burress’ size over the safeties and cornerbacks. Last season in a run oriented offense he scored 8 TD’s! Will the Giants look his way once again? He should have a few good years left in him, and frankly: he would be a worth-while risk.

EMBARRASSMENT?

The Knicks have set a new record for futility in a playoff series, not winning in about the last 100 years. If they are swept away by the Heat, this will be a big disappointment as far as seasons go. In spite of the coaching turnover, the team should have won at least one game in the playoffs. Instead all we have here is a cut up hand and a lame excuse from Amar’e.

That’s all I wrote, folks!
