YOU DON’T SAY

As much as I would move on to other things, more controversy pops up about the New York Jets and the locker room tension.

Derrick Mason
On SNY the other day, they interviewed Derrick Mason, a former Jet that was sent away for reasons I won’t go into right now. But he said some interesting things in a very candid way. He did not sound like he was blowing smoke, and included himself in the criticism he leveled against his former teammates.

One of the things he said was that the offense was sick. Sick is not his word, but the crux of the criticism was that no one on offense was trying hard enough. They all knew something was wrong, but thought it would straighten itself out. Kind of whistling past the graveyard at night. This feeling goes way back to September, when they should have won games that they didn’t.

After opening up their 42nd season with victories over the Cowboys and the only real offensive showing against the Jaguars, they lost three in a row to playoff caliber teams in Oakland, Baltimore and New England.

Nick Mangold
Nick Mangold was also interviewed, and also took some of the credit for the poor play the team experienced, saying that you can’t fault Sanchez for lack of leadership, when you have so many veterans on the team that didn’t step forward either! Mangold’s underlining message was simple: Every team has locker room problems, you can’t allow them to spill out onto the field.

GIANTS TESTED SUNDAY

Coach Tom Coughlin
The Giants have the season on the line this Sunday as they travel to the frozen turf (I don't use tundra) of Green Bay Wisconsin. The Giants didn’t beat anybody of note this year with the exception of beating the New England Patriots and the Cowboys twice, and yes, scaring the hell out of the Packers in New Jersey.

To bet against the Packers this season, in Packerville, with a team motivated by a recent tragedy, would be stupid. I don’t think the Giants are up to the task, and frankly will be out of it early. That is my prediction, and I hope I’m wrong. At this stage of the season, you want close games.

Brandon Jacobs
I have to say though, that Tom Coughlin has done a very inspiring job of taking a lot of mediocre talent and making it competitive! Take Brandon Jacobs, vilified all year by fans and media, and he stepped up big time against the Falcons. Some Giants fans will hate me for saying this but, Tom Coughlin IS a great coach, under appreciated and under valued. Let that go on record as my point of view. Without Coughlin as head coach, there is no playoff this year. There, I said it.

CAN IT BE!

Only 4 weeks until spring training! The season will start soon and a lot of fans will be getting ready to vent their frustrations. Particularly Met fans and fans other than the Yankees, Phillies and Marlins, whom all seem to have most of the talent of the majors locked in the three cities!

That’s all I wrote, folks!
