WHAT’S GOING ON?

Rex Ryan
In less than 24 hours, the Jets front office can do amazing things!

Tuesday afternoon, Brian Schottenheimer walks away from his job as New York Jets Offensive Coordinator and Tony Sparano is hired to replace him.

In sports, when someone gives you a vote of confidence, especially after screwing up, it is usually a kiss of death, and that is the case or so it seems with Rex Ryan and Brian Schottenheimer.
Don’t forget: Brian Schottenheimer was not Rex Ryan’s boy to begin with. He was in place already, and I remember the press wanting him to stay as the new regime took over. Maybe that is why Schottenheinmer had so much freedom, and Rex Ryan had no idea what was going on.

Schottenheimer
Did Brian Schottenheimer know something? Did he know that he was about to be fired? Two coaches under him were let go, did that mean he was angered into quitting because of that?

The media questioned Ryan prior to Brian Schottenheimer leaving, and Rex said that he expected him back if he didn’t get a head coaching job. A vote of confidence! Not only doesn’t Brian Schottenheimer; not get a head coaching job, he then quits the job he has!

Tony Sparano
Did the Jets sit down with Brian Schottenheimer and tell him not to come back anymore? This is a question that I raise since Tony Sparano came on board so quickly that it seems he didn’t have a whole lot of time to make up his mind about things like: Do I want to coach again at a lower level after being a head coach in Miami? How much money will I settle for? Do I want to re-settle my family in New York? Can my offensive philosophy blend in well with the Jets scheme of things? Can I co-exist with Rex Ryan? Doesn’t he have an agent? Can you agree in principle for a contract like that, and announce it to the media?

My suspicion is that this was in the works a while. That Brian Schottenheimer was told that he should save face and just leave, not get fired.

MEANWHILE

Mark Sanchez
The fallout about Mark Sanchez continues. Greg McElroy. Who the heck is Greg McElroy? He sits on his injured reserve and makes outrageous statements about the Jets locker room while he is in Alabama or somewhere south on a radio station.

A nobody in the sports world makes a statement about his teammates, I would expect he is gone, and soon. It seems many teammates of Sanchez have come forward on record as saying that there is no truth to the statements made by McElroy. Yet the statements made contrary are hiding behind confidentiality!

Greg McElroy
Fourth string quarterbacks should be practicing and not heard. They don’t own the right to criticize the #1 quarterback on the team, or even the #2 for that matter. Before you learn to lead you learn to follow.

There are a lot of veterans on the Jets team. They are the guys you may have to rely upon to form a wall of protection for you when you are about to throw a football in anger, you don’t want them anything but in front of you.

That’s all I wrote, folks!
