THE COMMISHIONER IS BACK

Bud Selig has decided to go against his original plan of retiring at the end of the 2011, and emerged with a two-year extension on his contract. Major League Baseball owners gave Selig until 2014 on his contract, and the commissioner was happy to sign it. Bud Selig will be 80 years old when the contract runs out.

Selig, former owner of the Milwaukee Brewers was named acting commissioner in 1992, and the named commissioner in 1998. He has seen the leagues prosper and has dealt with the labor strife. Major league franchises are worth more now than ever, as record revenues are recorded, and seen the depths of the steroid era.

Bud Selig is a good commissioner. There is a consensus of owners who will tell you that, contracts seem to tell you the players are happy with him, and the fans should be too, since he has expanded the playoffs, and introduced some integrity back with a tougher new drug-testing policy.

His tenure has not been without incidents, and one in particular occurred that occurred on September 11, 2011.

An angry Bud Selig called the Mets that Sunday night to complain that the team threw him "under the bus" by stating publicly MLB's decision not to let players wear caps honoring New York police and fire departments on the 10th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks!

Selig was embarrassed by it, The game got moved into prime time because of 9/11, and [MLB] ended up getting embarrassed.

The Mets wished to wear caps honoring the police, firefighters and other first responders during a game against the Chicago Cubs that Sunday night. They wore the hats for batting practice and the pregame ceremony, but MLB insisted they wear their regular caps during the game.

Baseball has grown and so has the issue of running it. Bud Selig will not live forever, and so someone the owners can agree on is needed to replace Selig in 2014.

Troy Polamalu

Sometimes rules just don’t apply. Case in hand is Troy Polamalu was knocked out of a Steelers/Jaguar game with concussion like symptoms. Fearing that his wife had seen the collision on TV, he called to re-assure her. Well, the NFL didn’t like that and fined him $10,000!

The rule state that you can not have a cell-phone or other similar device one hour before game time and during the game, while on the field. Polamalu, has a long history of concussions during his career, and he appealed the penalty. Polamalu won his appeal and won't have pay the fine. Wayne Crebet comes to mind, maybe Polamalu should retire!

Jeff Fisher

The St. Louis Rams fired their GM Billy Devaney and head coach Steve Spagnuolo, then turned around and hired Jeff Fisher. He will now try to restore the team back to the time hen it used to beat his Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans.

After taking the 2011 season off, he became the hottest coaching prospect available! Fisher coached for 16 years leading the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, with a so-so record of 142-120. He has led his teams to four division titles and a conference championship. The 1999 team lost the Super Bowl to, you guessed it, the Rams.
