IT'S BEEN A WHILE

OK. so it's been 3 1/2 years since I last weighted in. A lot has happened in that time. The Cardinals lost Albert Pujols and the Mets lost Jose' Reyes. Big friggin deal.

Reyes can't play a whole year because of hamstrings and Pujols will be a liability in 3 to 4 years! Are either one of those guys worth the money they signed for? Look at Reyes. He is 9 year as a major leaguer, and can't play a full season because of hamstrings. Is that worth $106 million? Does that translate into the money they are paying him. Where is Loria's head? A new stadium is nice, but don't bet on Jose to take you to the playoffs. He's been on the Mets for 9 years and all they have to show for it is 1 stinking second round play off! He is getting on in years, hasn't really inspired the Mets to get anywhere.

If you take a close look at the NY Mets, without Reyes, they seem to have enough horses to go all the way. Their offense is NOT shabby and if they stay healthy, they can waste Loria's money, new stadium or not. They are an offense talented team that also owns some pretty good starting pitching. Now that they have helped themselves in the relief pitching area, I think they are impressive. Their starters ranked in the top five in the National League! Reyes was not there all season, and give credit where credit is due, he did win the batting crown. But hitting is great when you are in position to drive in runs, but as a lead off hitter, it has it's limitations.

Of course the Los Angeles Angels have already built a place for the 2012 WORLD SERIES TROPHY! The problem is with the money they are paying the 'savior' Albert Pujols, he is an old 34. Ten Years form now he isn't even in Baseball. Pujols is now crossed the Rubicon, the year that his age starts to catch up with him. How does a 10 year contract make sense for any team for any player?

The New York Knicks seem to be pulling themselves together and challenging the Boston Celtics. If the concentrate on defense, they will be a major factor in unseating the Celtics as the team to beat.

The ice-cold Islanders are beginning to play like a real professional team. Maybe there is some kind of professionalism in the front office too!

People have been too quick to blow off the New York Football Giants. After what they showed in the Met Life Stadium against the undefeated Packers, they almost beat them, I would reconsider the head coaches position. I thing he has been doing a tremendous job. I recall the beginning of the season and how the Jets were the talk of the town, and the injury plagued Giants were out of it. Coach Tom quietly took the team into the season and they are in still good shape to enter a playoff berth.

For years the Jets have had one disappointing season after another. Then along comes Rex Ryan, who offers some color, wins and excitement. OK, the season isn't what he envisioned, but they are still in the playoff hunt. Some people think he is arrogant, I like his style, shows he has faith in his squad. Go Jets!

The Rangers play hockey hard. They work hard and they lose because the hockey gods have other ideas. They are a competitive hard-nosed team that can go all the way.

The Yankees seemed to be amazingly quiet during the winter meetings. Surprised, no. They have all the chips to win it all. Find a suitable repalcment for A J Burnett and they may have another championship on their hands in 2012!

That's all folks!
