THE BEST OF THE NFL ALL TIME GREAT TEAMS

Since the 1960’s and the introduction of the Super Bowl, the complexity of the game of football has dramatically changed. Expansion and the draft have helped it make college football even bigger than it ever was.

After looking at the best of the NBA, here is a look at who I think are the best all time NFL teams. I am picking only three from the over 45 years of past history.

1979 Pittsburg Steelers
Led by Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier, Lynn Swann, Donnie Shell, Mel Blount, John Banaszak, Jack Ham and John Stallworth the Steelers or “Steel Curtain” won 4 Super Bowls in the 1970’s, which qualified them as a dynasty with a 12-4 record. Some might argue the ’79 Steelers were the greatest team ever.

They scored 416 points on the year averaging 26 points per game, and gave up 262, almost 16 ½ points, beating all their opponents by at least 10 points and outscoring them by 156 points and had a whole slew of pro-bowlers.

1985 Chicago Bears
Any team that goes 15-1, and loses their only game to the best QB in the game at the time has to be great! For one Monday night in time, the Miami Dolphins ruined an otherwise perfect season behind the arm of Dan Marino. Scoring 456 points, and allowing only 198, they had one of the biggest point differential s in history. The roster consisted of Jim McMahon at QB, Walter Payton, Matt Suhey, and the famous William (The Refrigerator) Perry.

Mike Ditka’s monsters of the Midway then went on to the post season and shutout two opponents before using their four six defense to dominate the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.

1972 Miami Dolphins
People would consider the ’72 Dolphins as the greatest team of all time based on their undefeated record, which took them all the way to the Super Bowl! After all, they had a roster that consisted of: head coach Don Shula, QB Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, Mercury Morris, Jim Kiick, and Garo Yepremian. That is an all- star lineup.

They scored 385 points per game, an average of under 28 points, while allowing 171 points, an average of only 12 points per game. That is a differential of 214 points or just over 12 per game,

However there is another side of that argument, which goes: their opponents had a combined winning percentage of under .400! They barely beat the Steelers by 4 points in the playoffs and were underdogs going into the Super Bowl.

That’s all I wrote, folks!
