GOOD MOVE?

Carlos Quentin
Carlos Quentin was traded from the Chicago White Sox to the San Diego Padres. The Padres were a bad hitting ballclub last year, and need power to some degree to score runs. A middle of the order man is needed and he should be a legitimate hitter. Hitting homers is nice, but RBI’s are better.

Let’s look at the numbers other than Quentin’s home runs.

Ted Kluszewski
77 RBI’s and a .254 batting average is not so great. How many games will he win with his bat? If you realize that Albert Pujols .299 BA and 99 RBI’s will account for maybe 10 games for the Cardinals last year, trading prospects for a marginal hitter like Quentin doesn’t make sense to me.

The 1959 White Sox had a team that could put the ball in play, they had only one real power hitter in Ted Kluszewski, who was beyond his prime, and two hitters who hit 17 and 22 homeruns. The Chisox did it with slap hits and bunts and stolen bases. If I were the GM of the Padres, I’d be looking for that kind of team. 24 homers are nice, but will they do the trick?

JETS DON’T HAVE IT

Sanchez
And don’t deserve it, either. A team with that much talent has to perform. Lackluster play calling by Schottyheimer is part of the reason. The other reason could be that Sanchez is confused. He has the ability, just look at the past two playoff seasons. Maybe someday he will take them to the promised land, but not now.

The Jets have issues with the offensive coaching, and they just have to be addressed before the fall. The past three weeks they looked out of sync, out of the game, and out of touch!

Is Rex ready to fetch a new offensive coach, and maybe recreate the playbook? I see 2nd down and 17 and they continue to run the ball up the middle like they think they can fool someone. Last year they at least showed a lot more innovation in play calling, this year they seemed too predictable.

So far this year,  Rex has learned to roll over and play dead for New England. Rex should sit up and lick a Belichick Superbowl ring so he gets a taste of it, at least. Don't mean to be mean, but let's face it, three years of promise and nothing.

I TOLD YOU SO...

Congratu;ations to the New York Giants and Tom Coughlin! They beat the Cowboys as I predicted and win their division, no choking and no bragging, just a win when it matters. The Atlanta Falcons may be next, and I see the Hiants moving on to the next round a winner.
